On September 26, 2023, the Smart City Lab Basel officially came to an end.
We enjoyed the explorative journey during the last years towards sustainable approaches of urban development. The various workshops, discussions and collaborations opened new perspectives for us on the further development of our parking app towards a digital solution to enable smart parking also for mixed use sites or even whole quarters of a (smart) city. We celebrated together with the other projects and the representatives of the Canton Basel-Stadt and the SBB. We are deeply honored to be part of this journey and contributing in the area of mobility
Our key take aways are:
- The future-oriented development cities has to consider the disruption of the two areas mobility and real estate, which are triggered by the digitalization of these domains.
- This double disruption leads to a dynamic of change and thus to a variety of ideas in the intersection of the different areas.
The potential for solving problems is still huge and remains largely untapped because the traditional players are moving (too) slowly. - The mega trend of sustainability sets the bar high for all ideas to prove as long-term successful business models.
- A labor approach – as set by SBB and Canton of Basel helps to identify, test, refine, test again, re-work, optimize ideas into working solutions and sustainable business models.
- The openness of the stakeholders to try new approaches was a key success factor during this exploration – as e.g. regulations were not hindering innovation.
- The expertise and engagement of the different project partners and stakeholders improved the different approaches.
Thank you SBB, Canton of Basel-Stadt and all the other players who worked hands-on on tangible innovation for a smart city.
